There’s a Tiny Glitter Unicorn in My Coffee Mug…

This morning I found a tiny glitter-covered unicorn in my coffee mug.

A purple one. With googly eyes. And honestly? It didn’t even surprise me. That’s life with Quinn.

She’s five, full of imagination, and deeply devoted to two things: stuffed animals and crafting. Our house is basically a revolving exhibit of sticker projects, glitter glue, and snuggly creatures tucked into corners.

I adore it. I adore her.

But... I also like walking through our home without stepping on pom poms or losing a glue stick in the couch cushions.

I used to think the mess meant I wasn’t keeping up. Like I had to “crack down” and organize it all myself.

But here’s what I’ve learned—both as a mom and through my work with other families at Crescent Living Co.:

👉 Kids don’t need us to clean up after them. They need simple, beautiful systems that let them do it themselves.

The Day Everything Changed (Kind Of)

One weekend, I noticed Quinn struggling to “tidy up” her craft corner… and I realized: She didn’t actually know where anything was *supposed* to go. The markers were in three places. Her stuffies had no real home. The scissors were buried under a pile of construction paper. So we made a plan together.

We brought in:

* A rolling craft cart with baskets for glue, tape, crayons, and glitter (so much glitter).

* A set of soft bins for her ever-growing stuffy family.

* A low bookshelf to hold her favourite activity books and sticker packs.

* And most importantly… labels with both words and pictures so she could find what she needed *and* put things back.

Was it perfect? No. Was it magic? Almost. Within days, she was proudly showing me how she sorted her “paint stuff” and lined up her bunnies. It wasn’t just about cleanup—it was hers. Her system. Her room. Her wins.

My Go-To Picks (That We Also Use with Clients!)

I put all of our favorites in one place for you here:

👉 Shop My Kids’ Room Organization List

These are tried-and-true items I use not just for Quinn, but in homes we organize across Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Surrey.

Our favorite organization essentials:

🌈 Color-coded soft bins for categories like “stuffies,” “art,” and “school things”

🖍️ Rolling craft carts (clear drawers = game changer)

📚 Front-facing book displays to encourage independent reading and cleanup

🧵 Label makers with icons to make clean-up more intuitive for younger kids

🧺 Foldable hampers that look like toys themselves

These tools don’t just help your child. They give *you* breathing room, mama.

5-Minute Reset — A Win You Can Try Today

Pick a surface. Any surface. Quinn and I usually start with her craft table.

Set a timer for five minutes.

🎨 Toss dried glue sticks or broken crayons.

🎀 Group the stickers in one drawer.

🧼 Give it a quick wipe. Boom—done.

Celebrate it. Dance to a song. Light a candle. Call it good. ✨

You’re not alone if your child’s room feels like a creative tornado. You’re not “behind.”

You’re a mom with a big-hearted kid and a full life.

If you’re craving calm and structure in that space (without killing the creativity), that’s exactly what we do at Crescent Living Co.

And it would be an honour to help you and your little one find that sweet spot.
